Laughter has always been known as a “good medicine”, and its roots can be traced for as long as we can go back in time. There are references to the healing power of laughter in the bible, ancient Greek doctors prescribed laughter therapy and jesters were hired to relieve the stresses of royalty with humour.
So, why is laughing good for you?
– It boosts your immune system.
– It gives your body a mini workout by burning calories.
– It can increase blood flow to the heart and is good for heart health.
– It is a natural stress buster.
– It can reduce pain.
– It relaxes your body.
– It releases endorphins.
And if the above reasons have not convinced you as yet, this final one should do it – it is believed that laughing can help you live longer.
There is even a form of yoga called laughing yoga. Laughing yoga has its origins in India but is practiced in more than 5,000 studios worldwide. It uses a series of movements and breathing exercises to promote deliberate laughter. Laughing yoga is a way of teaching you how to laugh without the need for humour or jokes. It is meant to increase the oxygen levels in your body and brain and make you feel more energetic and healthier.
